March 31, 2022 by Joey Birch YEEZY Boost 350 ‘Turtle Dove’ Set to Re-release in 2022 There’s no doubt that the evergrowing YEEZY empire will have a long-lasting effect on footwear, fashion and music, transcending generations. Rewind the clock to 2015, a packed out New York Fashion Week show saw lines of models wearing oversized, tonal, garments, accessories and footwear partially inspired by the 2011 London riots. Before the brand's debut, Kanye West’s experience in fashion was already notable from his time with Louis Vuitton, the creation of Pastelle and his time with the late Virgil Abloh. While many were interested in the clothing, it was the footwear that was most notable. Featuring the YEEZY 950 Duck Boots and the 750 high top sneakers, the show saw the debut of a sneaker that would go on to have a chokehold on the industry 7 years later. The adidas YEEZY Boost 350 ‘Turtle Dove’ At the time the collection was released, no one knew what the sneaker was called and more crucially, what the sneaker would go on to become. In collaboration with adidas, the YEEZY Boost 350 showcased a new silhouette as well as utilising adidas’ innovative ‘Boost’ technology after being debuted on the 2013 ‘Energy Boost’ which featured the first Boost midsole. OG adidas 'Energy Boost', 2013 At the time Boost was showcased to the general public, it wasn’t met with much response, especially from the hardcore sneaker community with attention being focused on the Dunk SB and various Air Max releases from Nike. However, marking the first release with adidas after Ye’s departure from Nike following the Air YEEZY 2 ‘Red October’, the release of the YEEZY Boost 350 shifted consumers’ attention significantly and was a key point that opened the sneaker industry up to the mainstream with fans of sneakers and West alike clamouring for a pair of the converted release. Rumours have begun to circulate following a cryptic image posted by @yeezymic (Instagram) with a close up of the Turtle Dove design found on the original release with the simple caption “100%”. However, fans are sceptical as to the accuracy of the claims after a similar rumour surfaced in 2018. Assumed to feature the same Primeknit upper, which took the world by storm following the initial release of the 350 in 2015 later to be a mainstay on the adidas Ultraboost and NMD, as well as the clean white midsole and Boost outsole, the re-release of the adidas YEEZY Boost 350 ‘Turtle Dove’ is slated to arrive at some point during 2022. Following the heavy re-releases of some of YEEZY’s most hyped silhouettes including the 700 Wave Runner and the 350 V2 Zebra, a retro release of the 350 Turtle Dove may not be too farfetched.
