Official Images of the Air Max Day Nike Air Max 1s have been released

Air Max Day is Nike’s annual event held to celebrate one of their most famous lineages of all time. With 2022 marking the 35th anniversary of the sneaker that defined the future of the now world-renowned lineage, the Swoosh are utilising the Air Max 1 as the canvas to celebrate the occasion. 

Coming in three separate colourways that’ll be released in 3 different locations around the globe, each design is unique from the other with the colourways being inspired by each region they are being released in.

The first of the three titled ‘La Ville-Lumière’, translating to ‘The City of Lights’ in English will be released exclusively in Europe. Referencing the French capital, Paris, the sneaker takes a minimal approach to its colour pallet. A grey suede mudguard wraps around the bright white mesh toe box. A matching grey suede Swoosh is placed on the medial and lateral side of the shoe against a pearlescent panel that wraps around the forefoot. 

In direct contrast with the light upper, a dark blue tongue sits beneath the white laces with ‘3.26’ found on the tongue tab to mark the date of the prestigious day. Matching the tongue, a second hit of blue can be found on the sole of the sneaker nearer the toe in similar contrast to the grey and icy white outsole, under which the date of Air Max Day snd the phrase ‘La Ville-Lumière’ can once again be found. 

Continuing with the pearlescent theme around the back of the shoe, the ‘La Ville-Lumière’ colourway of the Air Max 1 will be released in Europe as a Women’s exclusive colourway.

The second addition to the trio is the ‘Blue Print’ colourway. Taking a clean blue and white approach to the design, providing what is arguably the most luxurious design of the three. Soft light blue suede is found on the mudguard and the heel panel of the upper sitting atop a creme midsole. 

A clean white mesh is used on the toebox to further amplify the varying tones seen across the upper of the sneaker with a grey foot arch encasing a blueprint style Swoosh on the lateral side of the shoe, with a mismatching white checker print on the medial side. 

Around the top of the shoe, Nike has switched the usual fabric tongue with a premium tumbled leather which is also seen around the top eyelets. Details on the shoe include a small clear blueprint style tongue tag with the ‘Nike Air’ logo written within including a mini blue Swoosh. 

An addition to the newer releases of the Nike Air Max 1, is the mini Swoosh seen on the lateral side of the mudguard which is additionally featured on the back of the shoe. A two-tone blue outsole is featured on the sneaker to tie the colours together with a darker shade of blue framing the lighter blue icy interior. 

The Nike Air Max 1 ‘Blueprint’ will be a North American Exclusive release. 

The final colourway of the Air Max Day exclusive pack provides a unique approach in comparison to its cousins. Titled the Air Max 1 ‘Wabi-Sabi’ the shoe will be an Asia Pacific and Latin America exclusive. 

Continuing the deconstructed trend made popular by the late designer Virgil Abloh through his collaborations between OFF White and Nike, the ‘Wabi-Sabi’ colourway of the AM1 features an overall rust effect with bold features suggesting the sneaker has broken down and been put back together again. 

Much like the recent OFF White x Nike Air Jordan 2, the midsole features a cracked effect, reminiscent of the sneaker's inevitable ageing. Each panel of the upper is made of varying colours to provide a patchwork effect, along with bold stitching throughout. Mismatching colours are used on each shoe with the mudguard and the heel panel being switched. 

Additional details on the shoe include a mini Swoosh roughly stitched onto the toe along with four red crosses stitched nearer the heel as if it were an afterthought or temporary fix. Mismatching tongue tags are used on each side of the shoe with one side keeping a clean white background and the second showcasing the ‘3.26’ date seen on the ‘La Ville-Lumière’ pair against a burnt orange patch. 

Finally, on the back of each sneaker, the classic ‘Have a Nike Day’ smiley face can be found cut into the suede along with an aged gum sole to tie the overall design together. 

The trio of Air Max Day exclusive Air Max 1 colourways are due to be released on the 26th of March to mark the event ahead of the anticipated OG Air Max 1 retro rumoured to arrive later in the year.
