The Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 Low ‘Reverse Mocha’ May Be Around The Corner
After a somewhat brief hiatus, Travis Scott is back with a slue of releases in collaboration with Nike including the long-awaited and highly anticipated, Nike Air Max 1 and Nike Air Trainer 1 which are seemingly set to release later this week.
In a move that seems to be making up for lost time, rumours have broken via @zsneakerheadz (Instagram) of the third addition to the Air Jordan 1 lineage between the two which is supposedly due to be released as soon as July.
With an already vast catalogue, the collaborative partnership between Scott and the Swoosh began back in 2017 after the rapper had appeared in a number of campaigns previously. Releasing the Air Jordan ‘Trunner’, a sneaker that debuted in the early 2000s, that as the name suggests, combined a trainer and a runner. However, the project was never officially released despite a pair appearing in an NYC Thrift Store in 2017.
As Travis’ career took off, so did his range of collaborative projects including his first Air Force 1 in 2017, AJ4 in 2018 and the widely disregarded Air Jordan 33 from 2019.
Just three months after the release of the AJ 33, came the release of arguably one of the most popular sneakers of all time. The Air Jordan 1 ‘Mocha’. Featuring a reverse Swoosh in addition to premium brown suede overlaying tumbled off white leather on the toebox and mid-foot.
Even three years later, the sneaker is widely regarded as a grail for both collectors and casual fans. With a low version of the silhouette releasing the same year - rumours almost instantly began to arise of a reverse Mocha variant existing. However, after little confirmation, the rumours were left as just that - rumours.
After the release of the OG ‘Mocha’ colourway of the Air Jordan 1 between the Houston rapper and Nike, it was tough to imagine that the same hype could be reached again. That was until the release of the triple collaboration between Travis Scott, Fragment and Jordan Brand in July of 2021. Immediately evoking mass hysteria when the images were released, the triple collaboration was, as before, released in both a high and low.
While the release wasn’t as beloved as the initial AJ1, the sneaker's impact is undoubtable, seeing three of the heaviest hitters in the sneaker industry coming together.
With collaborations between the sportswear brand and the artist released regularly, fans were already looking toward what would come next, and with that came a resurgence of rumours and questions around the ‘Reverse Mocha’ Air Jordan 1 Low.
Exactly what it says in the name, the colourway reverses the suede and leather panels on the OG 'Mocha' showcasing supple leather off white overlays surrounding deep brown suede on the toebox and midfoot. With the inclusion of vintaged laces and midsole, the sneaker plays into the current trend of pre-aged sneakers made popular thanks to the likes of the recent OFF-White Air Jordan 2 and the increased popularity of sneaker customisation. Additional details include the classic Cactus Jack logo switched into the medial side while the OG Air Jordan Logo and Travis Scott logo can be found on the heel panels.
While Scott has been spotted wearing the heavily anticipated sneaker, official confirmation or images are yet to be released by Nike or Travis. However, with the release of the AM1 and Air Trainer 1 around the corner, 2022 could see the return of Travis Scott and Nike. Whether fans are ready or not.
