Nike Mac Attack Returning in 2023
2022/23 appears to be the year that Nike is delving into the archive to bring back silhouettes that many have forgotten about within the constantly changing landscape that is the sneaker market.

Amongst the revitalisation of other archival silhouettes such as the Nike Air Kukini and Air Max Penny 2 in 2022 as well as celebrating a myriad of anniversaries including the Air Force 1 and Air Max 97, Nike has already confirmed the return of the OG Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’ by the end of 2022 as well a big revival of the Air Foamposite One and Vandal in 2023.

However, it doesn’t seem to be stopping there for the Swoosh. As confirmed by Complex, the Nike Mac Attack, a 1984 tennis silhouette, is set to make its first appearance since its original release over 38 years ago.

Designed for world-famous tennis player John McEnroe, who famously wore the 1983 Nike Wimbledon on the court as well as the 1987 Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Chlorophyll’, the upcoming retro seems to have appeared out of the blue. While the Mac Attack is making its first official return next year, Nike has previously released a very similar silhouette named the Nike Manor.
Released in 2012, the Manor was effectively a Swoosh-less version of the Mac Attack featuring a predominantly suede upper with additional leather panelling overlays around the toebox and heel tab. However, similar to the Mac Attack, the Manor appears to have been lost in time.
While the news of the sneaker's return may be the first time many have heard of the silhouette, it likely isn’t the first time they’ve seen it on foot. In 2021, the Mac Attacks made an appearance on the feet of both Lebron James during an NBA tunnel walk as well as the artist known for bringing back old-school classic sneakers as well as teasing upcoming releases by wearing them, Travis Scott.
Somehow, the 1984 pair managed to remain whole, at least during Travis’ photo where he is seen wearing the OG colourway which features a simple leather and mesh construction in white with dark blue/black detailing sitting atop a white leather midsole with the classic stars seen around the edge, first introduced in 1982 on the Air Force 1.
Additional details include a set of perforations running along the toebox as well as a small checkerboard tongue tab.
As with the Nike Air Max Penny 2 and the Dunk Mid, amongst other silhouettes, the return of the Mac Attack is due to return through a collaboration. This time with Charlotte-based brand Social Status as reported by Complex, however, neither Nike nor Social Status has confirmed this at this time.
At the time of writing, there is little news surrounding the return of the Nike Mac Attack in 2023. However, time will tell how well the new stream of retroes is met by fans.
